Vagabonds Camping Trip, 1918
(0001-7076)
In the late 1910s, the public became fascinated with news about Henry Ford and his summer camping trips with his companions: Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs. With eager reporters in tow, the summer adventures of the Vagabonds became public rituals from 1916 to 1921. In 1921, Ford arranged for President Warren G. Harding to join the group at their campsite in Maryland with an entourage that included Mrs. Harding, his secretary, Secret Service men, and a bishop of the Methodist church.
From the collections of The Henry Ford.
